Resident Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency (ROSS)

The Cumberland Plateau Regional Housing Authority Resident Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) Coordinator serves as a liaison between the housing authority residents, property managers, and community service providers by locating needs and services for its residents and coordinates available resources in the community to help meet needs.

The housing authority’s program goal is to offer families various self-empowerment tools and to coordinate through other providers to help them progress toward economic self-sufficiency.   By partnering with Southwest Virginia Workforce Investment Services, assistance is provided to residents through onsite classes; such as resume writing, online employment applications, computer and employment training programs and by assisting with employment search.  The ROSS Coordinator assists residents in finding services sponsored by numerous community partners; some programs include health and wellness events, computer classes, budgeting classes, fire safety, and diabetic classes.   Also, residents in need of eye glasses have been provided with vouchers from New Eyes for the Needy and hearing aids sponsored by Clinch Independent Living Services, Inc.  These are just a few of our outreach services provided to our residents.

We would encourage Self-help groups, community-based groups, and businesses to make arrangements through our ROSS coordinator to visit our communities to connect with residents.  Through community involvement residents can acquire support and assistance needed in their efforts to move toward self-sufficiency.
